Junior Representative Cricket

BEARS coordinates representative cricket for girls and boys from under 11 to 16 in the Bayside, Easts and Redlands.

In 2027, BEARS are introducing a carnival for under 11 boys and girls.

Competitions

Representative cricket has two types of competitions:

  • QJC carnivals
  • Development carnivals.

There a multiple regions through South-East Queensland that nominate representative teams into related carnivals.

When are the carnivals?

  • The boys and girls state carnivals for are usually the third week of December (first week of state school holidays).
  • The boys state development carnivals are usually in the first week of January.
  • The girls state development carnivals are usually in second week of January.

Selection

  • There are two stages to assess all nominated players for batting, bowling and fielding for their potential to step up to the next level of representative cricket.
  • Stage 1 involves net sessions and some fielding.
  • Approximately 16-20 players are selected for an Representative Cricket Program (RCP) offering additional training and coaching for the selected players. It does not guarantee selection into a QJC or development team.
  • In addition to this, players will also be selected for stage 2 trials which will occur later in the year during term 3.
  • For most age groups Stage 2 trials will have four teams playing in two matches under the same conditions of the carnival (generally 50 overs for each team). This may vary.
  • For the girls four teams are selected
  • U15 a QJC and Development team
  • U13 a QJC and Development team
  • For the boys it varies for each age group
  • U12 a QJC and 2 Development teams
  • U13 a QJC and 2 Development teams
  • U14 a QJC and 2 Development teams
  • U15 a QJC and 1 Development team
  • U16 a QJC team only
  • We are currently looking at additional carnival opportunities for players.

Costs

  • The BEARS selection process has a small fee to support the cost of fields and balls for the trial process.
  • If your child is selected in representative team it will vary on the carnival and location. QJC carnivals the cost will cover:
  • carnival fees
  • uniforms
  • coaching costs
  • training costs
  • BEARS no longer accommodate as a team, therefore accommodation and travel arrangements will be made by each family/player
  • Carnival locations are generally the same for development carnivals each year, however QJC carnival locations will change every 2 years.
  • BEARS offer payment plans and arrangements to assist families with the costs.
